Galaxy Note 3 Processor Rumors Take a Turn

All along, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has been rumored to have a Exynos 5 Octa octo-core processor, straight from Samsung, on board. However, the Galaxy Note 3 processor rumors have taken a bit of a turn as new information suggests that the company may be opting to put a Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor inside the next-generation phablet.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has emerged in a number of rumors over the past few months with whispers and leaks pointing to a number of high-end features including a larger 5.99-inch to 6-inch display, 13MP camera with OIS and 3x optical zoom and a design that is heavily based on the Samsung Galaxy S4′s new plastic design.

Rumors have also all, unanimously, placed the Exynos 5 Octa octo-core processor inside the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. The Exynos 5 Octa is the processor that is inside some versions of the Galaxy S4 and it’s a processor that offers eight cores, only four of which are used at the same time. The other Galaxy S4 devices use Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor.
According to ZDNet Korea, it appears that Samsung may opt for Qualcomm’s other new quad-core processor, the Snapdragon 800, for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. What this means is that Samsung could put two different processors inside the Galaxy Note 3, depending on region, with some regions getting the Exynos 5 Octa processor and others getting the Snapdragon 800.

It’s also possible that Samsung could decide use the Snapdragon 800 or the Exynos 5 Octa for all of its Galaxy Note 3 models though that remains to be seen. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 used Samsung’s Exynos quad-core chip across the board, even in the United States.
The Snapdragon 800 is a powerful chip and one that would bring a number of improvements to the table. Those include:
  • Ultra low power usage.
  • 4G LTE support.
  • USB 3.0 support for faster transfers.
  • QuickCharge 2.0 – Full charge in 3 hours instead of 7 hours.
  • Improved battery life.
  • Support for game engines like Unity, Epic and Unigine.
For a device as large and powerful as the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, battery life and low power usage are two essential features and ones that consumers would likely embrace. Of course, the Exynos 5 Octa is a powerful processor as well, so from the looks of things, whichever way Samsung decides to go, Galaxy Note 3 owners will have a powerful, high performance processor on board.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is expected to debut in September at IFA 2013 in Berlin though no specific date has been relayed thus far.
